Last September, I wrote my blog about paprika and how important it is, not only in Hungarian cooking, but also for health. This month, I wanted to revisit the importance and my love for this vegetable/spice. I spent the majority of August in Budapest visiting family and renovating my father’s condominium. I noticed that while I was in Hungary, that almost every single meal had some form of paprika in it. Whether it was fresh, pickled, or ground, it found itself within my meal. After a few weeks of eating it regularly, I noticed myself feeling a little better. I looked into why this might be.
Below are some of the health benefits that paprika may provide:
- Filled with fat soluble antioxidants that can help prevent and fight disease
- Capsaicin may help fight autoimmune disease
- Aids in metabolism
- Boosts the immune system
- May help reduce cholesterol
- May help bone growth and good vision
- Specific vitamins to help promote healthy kidney function
So the next time you are in the produce aisle, take an extra moment and pick up one or two peppers and incorporate into your meal. If you ever want to be a little adventurous in your cooking, please reach out to me and I will share with you some of my favorite recipes!
