Spring in to Clean Skin

Spring is finally here, the weather is warming up, which for the most of us means more time outdoors and less layers of clothing. For many of us, the winter weather has left us with dry skin that’s itching to be exfoliated. Exfoliating our skin, our largest organ, is essential for beauty and health. Exfoliation removes the layers of dead skin cells on our face and body and helps speed up the renewal process. Exfoliation is beneficial for:

  • Blemished skin – it removes dead skin and provides a deeper cleansing
  • Dry skin – remove the flakiness
  • Dark spots – may help lighten dark spots in conjunction with the right serum
  • Any skin – removes clogged pores such as blackheads and whiteheads

I recommend a once a week home care regimen and once a month professional treatment. We don’t want to exfoliate too often because it’s important to maintain our natural oils. So, what are the best ways to exfoliate? My favorite for the face is with a Hydrafacial treatment. The Hydrafacial not only provides a deep exfoliation, but also hydrates and rejuvenates the skin all within the same treatment. Hydrafacials can also be used for the arms, back and décolletage. For at-home care, try dry-brushing (body only), loofah or body scrub. You can even make your own body scrub with everyday ingredients such as salt, sugar, and oil. Here is a simple sugar scrub I have used at home:

  • Combine equal amounts of sugar and oil (coconut or olive) into a paste
  • Add to body in gentle circular motions
  • Wash off

After exfoliation, remember to rehydrate the skin with a moisturizer to nourish the newer skin layers. With regular exfoliation, the body and face will have healthier, glowing skin, fewer breakouts, reduced appearance of wrinkles and pores, and an improved absorption of product.
